…and where did it come from?
A French Chemist named Gattefosse adopted the term “Aromatherapy” while studying ancient civilizations and how they used plants containing healing properties. He wondered if the essential oils from these plants could solve medical conditions as easily as when treated with conventional drugs. He made his essential oils from a
variety of plant life, and all parts of the plants - flowers, seeds, resins, roots, etc.
“Western” medicine only targets the empirical symptoms (the obvious symptoms you and your doctor see in order to base a diagnoses). Aromatherapy targets the whole being – mental, physical, and ethereal being of a person. Aromatherapy has been around for centuries, and shows up in many different religions covering the entire world.
Examples are:
* In India Sandalwood was used to treat stomach disorders and depression.
* Native Americans used scents and perfumes from plants for thousands of years.
*The Christian bible gives examples of Frankincense and Myrrh being used for various healing. The Catholic church still uses this fragrance today.
* Many cultures around the world have used, and still use, smudge sticks (usually sage and/or sweetgrass) for cleansing before rituals, clearing space, or ridding space of negative energy.
* Chinese medicine is full of ancient and traditional healing methods using herbs for pleasure, sickness, and whole body health.
Did you know you could just put a couple of drops in the filter of your vacuum cleaner or on a light bulb? Try it. As well, don't bother buying expensive candles with scents in them just put a few drops of your favorite oil on any old candle when it starts to melt. It works.
